Abstract

Present agricultural policy offers the opportunity and support for the restoration of semi-natural communities on arable land. The challenge is to incorporate such restoration into the farming economy and to provide techniques that are effective on a large scale. This paper examines the need for the formulation of realistic objectives and the process of adapting them into practical schemes. The design of habitat restoration experiments on ex-arable land is examined and discussed.
