Abstract

Three elements of successful messaging were identified that lead to positive engagementwith target audiences, 1) message content; 2) message formats and, 3) disseminationoptions.1. In terms of message content, the work highlighted the importance of identifying the aimof messages and conveying this in clear, simple idea. The language used is extremelyimportant. If the language is not understood it is hard for people to engage with thecontent of messages. Removal of confusing words increases engagement.2. In terms of message formats, participants indicated diverse and multiple formats werepreferable. Although digital formats are being encouraged to ‘save trees’ a printededition can, in some places, be useful and required. To be inclusive and ensure wideengagement, the use of multiple formats should be encouraged.3. In terms of dissemination options, creative management of dissemination campaigns canhelp to ensure that a message is delivered direct to the target audience.
